Most schools use Qalamora online at their own web address. Some prefer to keep everything inside the school: the desktop edition runs Qalamora on one computer in your school, and the other computers use it through the school network.
How it works
- One server computer. Qalamora and its database run on one PC in the school office. Keep it switched on during school hours.
- Other computers use a browser. On the counter, principal's and teachers' computers you open an address such as
http://192.168.1.10:8080in Chrome or Edge. Nothing needs to be installed on them. - One school. The desktop edition holds a single school. There is no school web address to type; the address of the server computer opens your school's sign-in page.
- Same screens. Students, fees, challans, attendance, exams, accounts and the other modules in your licence work the same way as online, in English and Urdu, including printing.
What needs the internet
Daily work does not. The internet is needed only for:
- the licence check every few days (see Licence activation and checks),
- SMS and WhatsApp messages, if you connect a provider,
- parents using their logins from home, which needs the server to be reachable from outside the school (most schools on the desktop edition do not offer this).
Differences from the online edition
- Your school is responsible for the server computer, its power backup and its backups. See Backups and updates.
- There is no subscription page. The owner sees Settings > Licence instead.
- Sync between the desktop edition and the online edition is not available.
