Store school files in your own cloud

Keep student photos, documents and printouts in your own S3 bucket, Google Drive or Dropbox instead of Qalamora storage, and move existing files safely.

On Settings > Storage the school owner chooses where the school's files are kept: photos, logos and signatures, documents in the school drive, and printouts. Qalamora storage is the default and needs no setup.

Choices

Storage Good for
Qalamora storage Every school. Your plan's storage limit applies.
S3-compatible bucket Schools with an Amazon S3, Wasabi, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, DigitalOcean Spaces or MinIO account. Fast.
Google Drive Small schools. Slower, because every file goes through Google's API.
Dropbox Small schools. Slower, for the same reason.

When the school uses its own storage, your plan's storage limit does not apply; you pay your storage provider directly.

Switch storage

  1. Connect the storage. Under Connect your storage, connect the bucket, Google Drive or Dropbox account. Qalamora tests it by writing and deleting a small file.
  2. Choose it. Under Storage options, press Use this next to it and confirm Move files.
  3. Let the move finish. New files go to the new storage at once. Existing files are copied in the background; each one is read back and checked before it counts. The page shows the progress.
  4. Delete the old copies. When the move shows All files copied and checked, press Delete old copies now, or let Qalamora delete them automatically after the keep period shown on the page.

Note

Nothing disappears during a move. Until the old copies are deleted, Qalamora reads any file it has not copied yet from the old storage.

If a move stops

The move card shows Stopped and the reason. Fix the problem (for example a full bucket) and press Resume. Files that were already copied and checked are skipped.

Safety

  • Files are never public. Students, parents and staff open them through short-lived links from Qalamora, and keys or tokens are never sent to the browser.
  • Bucket keys and sign-in tokens are encrypted with your school's own key.
  • Only the school owner can change storage, and every change is recorded in the audit log.
  • You cannot disconnect a storage that holds your files; switch back first.
