A Qalamora backup is a locked ZIP file and a small key file in your cloud. You can open it yourself at any time to look at the records, and Qalamora support restores a school from it.

Open a backup

  1. Download both files. From your Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or bucket, download the .zip file and the .zip.key.json file with the same name.
  2. Unlock it in Qalamora. Go to Settings > Backups, scroll to Unlock a backup, choose the .key.json file, type your backup passphrase and press Show ZIP password.
  3. Open the ZIP. Open the ZIP with 7-Zip or WinRAR and enter the ZIP password Qalamora showed. Inside, data has one CSV file per table and files has your stored files if they were included.

مشورہ

The ZIP password is different for every backup. Qalamora shows it once and does not keep it.

Check a backup

backup-manifest.json in the ZIP lists every file with its SHA-256 checksum, the number of rows in each table and the date the backup was made. Support uses it to confirm a backup is complete before restoring.

Restore your school

Restoring replaces records, so it is done by Qalamora support with you:

  • Open a support ticket from Help and say which backup you want restored (its file name).
  • Support checks the manifest and checksums first and agrees with you whether to restore into your school or into a new, empty school so you can compare.
  • You provide the ZIP and key files and type the passphrase yourself when asked; support never needs to know it.

If the passphrase is lost

Nobody can open backups locked with a lost passphrase, including Qalamora. Set a new passphrase on Settings > Backups; backups made after that use the new one. Older backups still need the old passphrase.
